Today, we join people around the world in observing World Suicide Prevention Day under this year’s theme: Changing the Narrative on Suicide.
Changing the narrative means creating spaces where people can speak openly, be heard without judgement, and connect with the care and support they need.
It means asking.
It means listening.
It means connecting.
It means making help safer to seek.
In Nigeria, the move toward decriminalising attempted suicide is an important step toward a response rooted in care, treatment and support. But policy change must be matched by access to quality care and meaningful support.
Today, and every day, let’s remember that suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility.
ASK. LISTEN. CONNECT. SUPPORT.
LET HELP BE THE FIRST RESPONSE.
