Community Medicine Department

The Community Medicine Department provides comprehensive public health services, preventive care, and community outreach. The department also runs the National Programme on Immunization (NPI) unit which delivers routine immunization, outbreak vaccination, and community health education.


Services & Activities

A. Daily Clinic Consultation

  • Consultations from other clinics and wards
  • Diagnosis and management for TB / HIV services
  • Treatment initiation and monitoring for patients on therapy
  • Follow-up and continuity-of-care services

B. NPI Unit Activities (Immunization & Public Health)

  • Daily routine immunization services
  • Health education for mothers on vaccine-preventable childhood diseases
  • Counseling on baby care: cord care, breastfeeding, nutrition, hygiene, and family planning
  • Education on signs of Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) and hand hygiene
  • Outbreak vaccination for staff and surrounding communities (e.g., meningitis, yellow fever, measles)
  • Vaccination of women of childbearing age against tetanus and tetanus-diphtheria where applicable
  • Generation and reporting of routine immunization data
  • Maintenance of a quality cold-chain system for vaccine storage and transport
  • Active participation in public health activities and immunization programs in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
  • Issuance of immunization certificates to infants who complete the routine schedule
