The Ophthalmology Department delivers primary, secondary, and tertiary eye care services across clinical, surgical, training, and research activities.
Services & Activities
- Outpatient consultation, diagnosis, and management of eye conditions.
- Health education and counselling on eye health and prevention.
- Elective and emergency eye surgeries (cataract, glaucoma, etc.).
- Residency and medical student training programs.
- Community outreach programs and eye screening camps.
- Refractive, low-vision and optical services (spectacles dispensing).
- Diagnostic investigations: central visual fields (CVF), ocular ultrasound, biometry, and other tests.
- Other functions as designated by hospital management.
Units
- Clinic Unit: Provides comprehensive outpatient eye care, counselling, and primary diagnosis.
- Optometry Unit: Offers refraction, low-vision services, visual field testing, biometry, ocular ultrasound, and optical laboratory services (spectacle dispensing). (Unit staffed by optometrists; optical lab operates on weekdays.)
- Eye Ward: 12-bedded dedicated eye ward with nursing station, wet lab, doctor call room and examination room. Consultant ward rounds: Tuesday–Friday. Resident ward rounds: daily.
- Eye Theatre Unit: Equipped with 2 operating tables and 2 operating microscopes; provides elective and emergency surgical services. There are four elective operation days per week.
Clinic Schedule
- Outpatient Clinics: Monday – Thursday, 08:00 – 16:00.
- Emergency Eye Services: 24 hours daily.
