The Pharmacy Department delivers safe, effective, and timely pharmaceutical services across the hospital. It combines clinical pharmacy, supply chain management, production/compounding, pharmacovigilance, training, and quality assurance to support patient care.
Sections / Service Areas
- Pharmaceutical Emergencies — Rapid response and dispensing for urgent medicine needs.
- Pharmaceutical Out-patients — Dispensing and counseling services for outpatients.
- Pharmaceutical In-patients Management — Inpatient medication management and clinical pharmacy services.
- Pharmaceutical Supply & Distribution — Procurement, warehousing, and distribution to clinical units.
- Pharmaceutical Research & Training — Internship coordination, staff development, and research activities.
- Drug Information & Pharmacovigilance — Provide drug information to staff/patients and monitor/report adverse drug reactions (ADRs).
- Pharmaceutical Production & Quality Assurance — In-house production and compounding of specialized or scarce formulations; production of sanitizers and disinfectants when needed.
Core Functions & Services
- Pharmaceutical Care Services: Prescription screening, medication therapy monitoring, clinical interventions, and patient counselling.
- Training & Capacity Building: Coordinate training for pharmacists, interns, and continuous professional development for staff.
- Pharmacovigilance & Drug Information: Track, document and report ADRs; provide evidence-based drug information to clinicians and patients.
- Supply Chain Management: Procure medicines, ensure quality storage, maintain stock levels, and distribute medications to clinical areas.
- Production & Compounding: Manufacture or compound rare/unstable formulations not readily available on the market (e.g., customized liquids, topical agents). Also produce consumables such as liquid hand wash, disinfectants, hand sanitizers, and ethylated spirits where required.
- Quality Assurance: Verify drug quality, implement QA checks in procurement and compounding, and ensure compliance with national standards.
