The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has officially granted a five-year recognition status to the College of Nursing Sciences, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Edo State.
The recognition, communicated in a letter dated September 25, 2025, follows a resource inspection conducted between September 7–10, 2025, and will take effect from the 2024/2025 academic session, with accreditation due in 2030.
NBTE commended ISTH’s progress but advised further improvements including:
- 30 additional computer units for the e-library
- Installation of internet services with access to academic databases
- Enhanced library ventilation
- Establishment of a fully furnished staff club
Reacting to the development, Prof. Reuben Eifediyi, CMD of ISTH, described the recognition as a strategic boost for healthcare training in Edo State and beyond, calling on stakeholders to support the institution’s continued growth.
The Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to strengthening technical and health education across Nigeria, noting that ISTH must invite NBTE for re-accreditation in 2030.
This recognition underscores ISTH’s central role in producing world-class healthcare professionals for Nigeria’s growing medical sector.
