Document Every Procedure, Avoid Neglect – ISTH CMAC Urges Nursing Heads

The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Dr. Micheal Olukunle Obagaye, has called on nurses in the institution to show greater diligence to duty and ensure proper documentation of all nursing procedures to prevent revenue losses.

Dr. Obagaye gave the charge on Thursday during a meeting with heads of units of the Nursing Services Department held at the hospital complex. He emphasized that neglect in documenting clinical procedures directly dwindles hospital revenues and urged the nursing staff to cooperate with management in ensuring that all due revenues are collected and leakages are stopped.

“Every nursing procedure carried out must be documented. When we fail to capture what we do, the hospital loses revenue that should go into improving our facilities, welfare, and patient care. We need your full cooperation to block these leakages,” the CMAC stated.

He further appealed to the nurses to maintain professionalism, uphold the ethics of the profession, and work in synergy with other departments to strengthen service delivery and financial accountability across ISTH.

Present at the meeting were other members of the hospital’s management team, including Dr. Eighemerio Ehi, Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (DCMAC) for Acute & Critical Care; Dr. Christian Erohubie, DCMAC for Clinical Services & Outreach; Mrs. Agatha Okojie, Director of Nursing Services; and Dr. Anthony Owolabi, Director, Medical Education & Residency Training.

Responding on behalf of the nursing heads, Mrs. Okojie assured management of the department’s commitment to improved documentation and revenue tracking. She noted that unit heads would cascade the CMAC’s directives to all nurses and institute internal checks to ensure compliance.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by ISTH management to improve operational efficiency, accountability, and quality of care in the tertiary health institution.
