ISTH CEMONC Committee Takes Sensitization Campaign to Ekpoma and Irrua Markets

The Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEMONC) Sensitization Committee of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) has extended its public awareness campaign beyond the hospital walls by taking the message to major markets and religious centers in Ekpoma and Irrua. The outreach was carried out at New Market Ekpoma, Anglican Market, and Irrua Market to educate the public on the newly launched CEMONC services aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal mortality.

During the sensitization exercise, the team explained that the programme focuses on the management of ectopic pregnancy, premature rupture of membranes, obstetric haemorrhage, and other related complications. The committee also noted that the services are intended for women of reproductive age with the listed conditions and that beneficiaries must be Nigerian citizens with a valid National Identification Number (NIN).

Led by Dr. Abel, the CEMONC team received positive feedback from market women who commended ISTH management for the initiative and pledged to help spread the information within their communities. The outreach was further extended to religious institutions, including the Central Mosque, Winners Chapel headquarters in Ekpoma and Irrua, Deeper Life Bible Church headquarters in both towns, Church of God Mission Irrua, and the Anglican Diocese of Esan, Ekpoma.

The exercise concluded with a group photograph of the sensitization team and participants.
