ISTH Celebrates Second Edition of Children’s Christmas Party

“Our Children, Our Joy: A Christmas Celebration 2025”

Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) on Saturday, 20th December 2025, came alive with excitement, games, music, and festive cheer as children from diverse backgrounds gathered for the second edition of the ISTH Staff Children’s Christmas Party.

The event, themed “Our Children, Our Joy: A Christmas Celebration 2025,” was held at the ISTH Sports Field, Irrua, in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State. It was organized in the true spirit of the Yuletide, creating moments of joy, bonding, and celebration for children and families.

The Children’s Christmas Party, the second of its kind in the hospital’s history, is the brainchild of Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Eifediyi. The event was chaired by Hon. Dr. Lucky Eseigbe, PhD, Edo State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Message from the Initiator

In her welcome address, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Eifediyi described the gathering as a celebration of innocence, joy, and community.

“Today, we gather as a community of families, friends, and colleagues to celebrate the joy, innocence, and sparkle of our children. In a world that often moves too fast, our children remind us to slow down and appreciate the gift of joy they bring to our lives.”

She emphasized that the event symbolizes shared care and collective responsibility, noting that:

“This party is a reminder that we are part of something bigger — a network of support, care, and shared joy.”

Dr. (Mrs.) Eifediyi also unveiled a vision for a therapeutic playground, specially designed for sick children and to be attached to the new Children’s Emergency Ward. According to her, the playground will support the physical, emotional, and social development of children receiving care.

While thanking ISTH management for providing space for the project, she appealed to public-spirited individuals, corporate organizations, and stakeholders for support through donations and equipment to bring the vision to life.

CMD Reaffirms Commitment to Children’s Wellbeing

Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director of ISTH, Prof. Reuben Agbons Eifediyi, welcomed guests and urged everyone to reflect on the true meaning of the celebration.

“Our children are indeed our greatest treasure. They embody the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of a better tomorrow. It is our collective responsibility to nurture and protect them, ensuring they have every opportunity to thrive.”

He commended the visionary leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Eifediyi and her team, describing their dedication as commendable. Prof. Eifediyi reaffirmed ISTH’s commitment to the proposed therapeutic playground, stating that:

“At ISTH, we believe every child deserves a safe and supportive environment to play, learn, and grow.”

He called on parents, staff, and community members to collaborate with hospital management to make the playground a reality.

The event featured exciting raffle draws, with prizes including children’s bicycles, cartons of noodles, toys, traveling bags, and boxes. Christmas gifts were also presented to children from special homes, including motherless babies’ homes, spreading joy beyond the hospital community.

The celebration marked yet another step in ISTH’s commitment to holistic care, community engagement, and child-centered initiatives.
